One Tool for Discussing Speaker Reactions with Caregivers
When working with young children who stutter we do our best to infer what they are experiencing so that we can offer support and decrease their struggle. The PDF below is an example of a process I sometimes use when working with a young child who stutters. There is so much more to the experience of stuttering than fluency counts. Reviewing observations of behaviors that are "more helpful" versus "less helpful" is just one tool in determining whether a child needs therapy and what reactions might be addressed. This checklist is not exhaustive, just a starting point for this important and ongoing discussion.
